Anthony C. Romero, M.D earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco after majoring in Human Biology at Stanford University. He completed his residency training Stanford University where he served as the chief resident during his final year. Following residency he completed an advanced fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at New York University and the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. Dr. Anthony Romero is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with sub-specialty certification in sports medicine. Utilizing minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques and aggressive rehabilitation protocols, he has extensive experience treating shoulder rotator cuff pathology, complex knee ligament/cartilage tears, and a wide variety of ankle injuries. Dr. Romero is one of a limited number of orthopedic surgeons qualified to treat hip femoro-acetabular impingement and labral tears through minimally invasive surgery. While his focus is on joint preservation arthroscopic surgery, he also performs joint replacement surgery and comprehensive fracture care. Dr. Romero is uniquely qualified to treat athletes of all levels and skills. He has participated in the care of several professional and collegiate sports teams as well as professional dance troupes. Dr. Romero has worked with: the San Francisco 49ers, New York Mets, Brooklyn Cyclones, Santa Clara University Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Martha Graham Dance Theater and San Jose Cleveland Ballet. He currently is the team physician for Laguna Blanca and serves as a sports medicine consultant to the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) and University of California, Santa Barbara’s Student Health Department. Dr. Romero enjoys helping patients return to their vital occupational and recreational activities. He strives to create a comfortable patient-doctor communication by effectively listening the his patients' concerns, presenting them with their diagnoses, then offering therapeutic treatment options most appropriate for their unique situations. Dr. Romero's mantra is to provide quality orthopedic care without compromise.
